Vote for My New Photo & Enter to Win a Book!

I've been using this photo on my blogs and websites for years.

I got tired of hearing people tell me that they didn't recognize me because I look so different now. (That's the polite way of telling me that this photo was taken at least 10 years ago and now I'm OLD and really need to face reality.)

I've also recently used this image on facebook and other social media places.

I think it looks just like me but it might not go over well HERE.

So I did a photo shoot a couple of weeks ago. I whittled down the 171 shots taken by Jessica Sorenson  to the ones below. Now I need some help deciding which one to use.

I work in the book/publishing industry. I'm looking for a photo that says I'm:
  • professional
  • competent
  • honest
  • friendly
  • and easy to work with

Which one should I use?

Please vote in the comments section. You can vote for as many photos as you want but you HAVE TO TELL ME WHY you picked the one(s) you did.

Vote by midnight on Saturday, September 25, 2010.

Everyone who votes is entered to win a copy of

Key Lime Pie
by Josi Kilpack

I loved it!

It's a great read and I happen to have an extra copy.

Get extra entries by helping me spread the news via Facebook, Twitter, or your blog. Tell me in the comments how you earned your extra entries.

I love all of the shots with you holding a book, but #6 is my favorite!! You look absolutely beautiful and serene AND you are holding a book. It is professional, current and appealing.

I am so excited for you!! Some day I want to do this same thing, but want to lose A LOT of weight first!

I love them all, but I've gotta vote for #2!

I absolutely say #5. I LOVE your smile in it. You look gorgeous! Good luck picking. :)

I like #8. My wife always asks me why I like something and it is always very difficult for me to identify the specific features. I think I like it because you look professional and thoughtful. The brick and stone wall behind you lends solidarity and reliability. Oh heck, I don't know. I just like ti best!

Okay, You posted ten, I pick three.

I like #2. There is a playful quality in your eyes. You enjoy your work.

I also like #6. You look very professional and straightforward. Honest.

And, I like #7. You seem to be in deep contemplation, seeing things that are there which other people (the viewers) do not yet see. Wise.

Good luck! Hard choosing one. T. Lynn

OK, me again...
I posted about the contest on Facebook, I tweeted about it on twitter and just blogged about it on my blog. I still like #6 the best, but 2nd I like #8.

My favorites are #2 and #5. I think #2 is my personal favorite, and #5 I think would be best for your page.

#2 - you just look "real".. not posed. It has a naturally happy, carefree, fun-loving, energetic appeal.

# 5 - still fun and happy, but with the eye contact (rather than looking away,) it makes it it more "professional."

I like these two the most because it makes you look like you are ENJOYING life and books and all that jazz. Some of the others just look a bit "forced" to me. Not quite so "comfortable in my own skin" and "ready to take on the world - smiling all the way..."

And that is MY opinion!

Good luck!

The reason the other picture doesn't look like you is that it's not a natural smile--your personality isn't in it. The new ones--totally you.

My faves: #2, #6, #10.

They're oozing personality.

My favorite is #10 because of the mystery behind the picture but I probably wouldn't use it for publicity. I like #4. It show confidence and causelness.

My wife loves your first three books, and is looking forward to getting Key Lime Pie.

I guess I'm different, but personally, my vote is for picture #4.

Key Lime Pie is by Josi Kilpack, not me. I just love the story. :)

I really like #4 b/c it shows you relaxed, welcoming and very comfortable. :)

I love all of them. You look fantastic! My vote is for #6. It's just flawless and I think sets the tone for everything you want.

I'd go with #5. Beautiful, but real.
And I'm just stopping by via someone who posted about this, and I think I like your blog! Consider yourself followed!
I can't wait to hear more of your insights and experiences with the writing and publishing world. I'm sure anything you say will help me with my own writing career!
Good luck picking a picture--it looks like everyone has been choosing different ones.

#5 is my favorite. You look like someone I'd love to talk to about whatever you're reading, and although the ones you're half-hidden behind are fun, I like to see your whole face.

I'm not voting because:
1. I already have a couple copies of the book

2. I know which ones you didn't put up and my favorite isn't here.

But if I were voting I would say-6 or 7.

I like 7

I love #6. The lighting is great, you are 3/4 of the space, and you look genuine, professional, and approachable. Great smile. It was the one that made me say, "Yes, that one!"

Hi Karlene - We have met briefly several years ago. I saw your post on Phil Harrison's facebook profile. This project looks fun. I don't know you as well as the other folks that seem to be commenting, but I hope you find this helpful.

You state you want the picture to say that you are professional, competent, honest, friendly, and easy to work with.I know you are all of those, so I suggest you let your personality shine through.

My vote would be #2. The most important reason is because it is the only picture here where your entire face lights up in a warm and inviting smile, even your eyes smile. You look like you were reading a book (doing your job - professional) and someone came and interupted you and you are very happy to be able to help them (a friendly multi-tasker - easy to work with). The angle the picture was taken at also says you and I are equals which again suggests you are easy to work with. The column behind you is a great symbol for being competent and sturdy.

There are two draw backs to this picture. The first is that some feel that when you hide a part of your face, you are hiding something. I really don't see that in this particular picture, as it feels like you are in motion moving the book down to talk to someone. The second draw back is that the bright white back ground is not as inviting as you are, but the symbolism, I think, makes up for that.

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful project. I wish you well in all your endeavors.

Phil knows where I live ... just in case I win the book. :o)

I think you should use #5. First of all you look beautiful in it, but it is a little softer than the others. You still come across as a professional, however, your smile shows your love of your career choice and a love of books! That being said,...#9 is totally my favorite. You look fabulous- and definitely up to no good:) Like you have some great secret that only you know and may (if we are lucky) share it with us! (by the by, your nails look fabulous):)

I vote #6 because your expression is professional, happy but not cheesy, and because the placement of the book still shows your whole face, while giving us a hint of your personality.

Great shots!

I like #6. You look approachable and relaxed.

9 is fun, but it's between 2 or 6. I already have Key Lime Pie, so don't enter me!

Stampmouse said...

i was torn between 5 and 6 but finally decided on 6. I love the smile in 5 but the closeness of 6 made me choose it over 5

Too late for the prize, but I like #5. Great smile!
