An Apple a Day

I may have mentioned that my sisters and I are trying to do something new and fun every month.

Yesterday, we visited a vampire coffee shop.

Today, we decided to do an apple tasting contest. (It was Suan's idea.) We went to Wal-mart and got one of every apple variety they had.

(I was not super impressed because they did not have any Jonagolds.)

This is what we ended up with:

We cut the apples into pieces and then passed them around the room.

There were two parts to the taste test.

1) They had to guess the type of apple they were tasting, and

2) they had to vote for the best and worst tasting apples.

Drew said he guessed five of the apples correctly,
so we gave him the prize and took his picture.

Drew lied.

He didn't get ANY of them right.

We stripped him of his prize plate of leftover apples and
awarded them to the real winner!
Yay, Mom!

Winner of the WORST APPLE OF THE BUNCH:
The New York Apple

(I have no idea what a "New York" apple really is, but that's what the label said.)

It was so bad, it scared G when Elaine tasted it!

Winner of the BEST TASTING APPLE OF THE BUNCH:
The Gala Apple!

(Which just happens to have been my favorite!)

What's your favorite apple?

What a fun idea! I love gala apples, with Granny Smith a close second.

My absolute favorite is the jonathan apple, and they haven't been very easy to find lately.

There is an apple we found when we lived in West Virginia that was pretty cool, called "Grimes Golden" that tasted like the cinnamon was already in it.

And I've had an apple called "William's Pride" that is very good, but they don't store well, and only come on for about a week (found them at a farmer's market a few years ago, and haven't been able to find them since).

Honeycrisp! They're so expensive though!
