When Google Fails You...

Suan: Where are those statue things?

Me: On Main Street. See the Google map I printed out?

Suan: It says, "Turn right on Main Street. Then take a left on...Main Street."

Elaine: I think we're lost.

Me: No. We're on Main Street.

We finally stopped and asked directions.

We can do that. Because we're women.

We can also have fun with statues.

Ooo, look! I can stand on one foot!

And I can do the spring dance!

Suan: I could do the book one. But I don't have a book.

Karlene: I have a book in my purse.

Suan: I told you not to bring any books! You're not allowed to read on this trip!

Karlene: *holds up the book*

Suan: Whatever. Just give me the book!

See? I can do the book.

I can think. Sometimes...

I can be an Indian.

I can be a better Indian!

And I can hold a sword!

I'm going to tickle the fish for good luck.
So we don't get lost again.

Ooo! Look at these cool pilgrims!

Here in Utah, we call them pioneers.

All of our husbands told us to stay out of trouble and not get arrested.

Why would they say that?!

Ooops!

BYU vs UTES?

Who cares?

The real competition is

vs

Okay, so. I love me some sugar free frozen yogurt. And while chocolate is usually my all-time-history-of-the-world favorite, U-Swirl has an absolutely scrumptious New York Cheesecake.

And for some reason, the sugar free Orange Leaf gives me gastro-intestinal discomfort, while the U-Swirl doesn't. I'm thinking it's the fake sugar they use.

(Not all carcinogenic sugar substitutes are created equal.)

(Pun totally intended.)

(I don't really even like Equal [registered trademark].)

(I don't know how to make the little R in a circle mark with a PC.)

(Stupid PC)

(Whatever)

(Where was I...?)

(Oh, yeah...)

But I was out-voted. So we went to Orange Leaf.

Here we are. I got chocolate but refused to pay for a green cup because I didn't get my way! (Yes, I'm pouting.)
Suan got white chocolate strawberry. Elaine says not to get marshmallow topping on the pineapple. But it's fine with the brownie coconut flavor.

And just for the record? I think that during the drive to our next stop, the girls were experiencing the after-effects of me on Orange Leaf and wishing we'd gone with U-Swirl...

Contest: Leave your vote for Orange Leaf vs U-Swirl in the comments. At the end of our trip, I'll do a random drawing for a winner. Winner will receive a momento from our trip.

Curses, Foiled Again!

[I am stuck in the hotel room with a sore toe, so the blog party is back on--starting now.]

Wednesday, I left early for the airport. My Jeep was packed, my errands were run.

What was I gonna' do? Go back home and stare at the walls for an hour or three?

So, off I go!

The Plan: Stop at the Park 'n Wait and read until Elaine calls, then pick her up at the curb.

The Plan was going smoothly and I was several chapters into reading a new book when nature calls.

One of the downsides of aging is when nature calls, you answer. Fast.

But I thought, that's okay. I'll just go park and read inside the airport while I wait. It's worth a few bucks to answer the call of nature and wait in air-conditioned comfort.

Now this is where I should note: I've done Park 'n Wait and curbside drop-off/pick-up for years now. I was vaguely aware of renovations at the airport, including new parking options, but it's never been an  issue because... well, curbside.

There are three signs: Economy Parking, Terminal, and Drop Off/Pick Up. Telll me, which one would YOU have chosen? Economy Parking, right?

Wrong. I end up in this vast wasteland of parked cars.

I miss the shuttle by seconds and I'm afraid to wait for the next one because, you know, nature and all. But there's a sign that says "Pedestrian Walkway to Terminals." If they've provided a walkway, it can't be too far, right? Surely it's only a short walk? Right? RIGHT?

Two minutes later, I realize I've forgotten Elaine's welcome sign. She wanted a sign so I made one.
And it  took hours and hours and hours to be this creative. No way was I leaving it in the car!

So I got the sign and the red, white & blue lei. And of course, there's no shuttle in sight and I REALLY need to hustle.

5 minutes later, I see the covered parking. WTHeck?

I realize my mistake but by now, I don't have time to go back to the car, check out of the economy parking, circle around the airport again and repark in the covered parking.

I. AM. DESPERATE. Surely it's not too much farther...

At this point, I'm seriously regretting my choice of footwear.

I picked these flip flops, not because they're comfy but because 1) they are matching sisters flip flops; 2) I don't expect to do too much walking; and 3) pretty!

Another 5 minutes later, I finally get to a building with a bathroom. Relief. But am I there yet? No.

I still have another short hike to the terminal.

*SIGH*

I'm just happy I got me some tres leches cupcakes to distract me from the foot pain.

And then FINALLY, after six years of waiting, Elaine gets here.

Did I say she wanted a sign?

Elaine holding her sign.

Apparently I was supposed to say QUEEN Elaine on the sign. Picky.

Then we go pick up Suan. She wanted a sign too.

Just in case you can't read the fine print...

And we're on the road. Next stop? Orange Leaf.

Contest: Describe your favorite pair of flip flops in the comments. At the end of our trip, I'll do a random drawing for a winner. Winner will receive a momento from our trip.

Vegas Party on Temporary Hold

Due to a series of unfortunate events, we have to pause the partying until I get back home because 1) I am not paying $13 a day for internet (seriously LVH?); 2) it's too hard to blog from my phone; and 3) I was a victim of the 2012 Esccalator Wars. (details forthcoming, I promise.)

Check back on Monday.

Nickname My Jeep Contest!

Cordelia (aka my awesome Jeep) is all gassed up and ready to go!

Doesn't she look nice? The car fix-it guy tuned her right up and said she's in great shape for a trip to Vegas. She has nice clean oil in her. All her fluids topped off. And DH pretty much did a full detail on the inside.

[Thank you, DH!]

And here she is from the back.

What's that? A pretty poster in the back window?
Someone must have just turned 50!

*Sigh* I just love my Jeep.

But she needs one more thing before she's ready to go...

A nickname—for this trip only.

What should we call her?

Leave your suggestions in the comments—one suggestion per comment (to make it easier for me to count). Leave as many suggestions as you like.

Winner #1: At the end of our trip, I'll do a random drawing from all comments for a winner. Winner will receive a momento from our trip.

Winner #2: The person with the best name—as judged by me—will also win a momento from the trip.  (Hint: I'm leaning toward a name that ties in with Vegas or turning 50...)

Contest Ends: Saturday, September 15, 2012. Winners announced on Monday, Sept 17th.
Prizes shipped within the contiguous U.S. only. If you live outside the U.S., you can still play but you'll receive a digital book as your prize.

Vegas: What Am I Forgetting?

Packing for Vegas like a mad woman!

I've got my underwear and shoes in the suitcase, but that's about it right now.

Help! I'm afraid I'll forget something important!

Remember that game, where you take turns coming up with answers in alphabetical order? Let's play that, sort of.

Karlene is going on a Road Trip
and she's taking a/an _____.

Leave a comment with WHAT I must take and WHY.

If the item in your comment is the next alphabetical letter after the one in the comment above you, you get two entries to win.

Winner #1: At the end of our trip, I'll do a random drawing for a winner. Winner will receive a momento from our trip.

Winner #2: The person making the funniest, cleverest comment—as judges by me—will also win a momento from the trip.

Contest Ends: Saturday, September 15, 2012. Winners announced on Monday, Sept 17th.

What happens in Vegas...

...gets posted on my blog!

I was going to do a big party and have sponsors and prizes and all that jazz—like what I did during my Summer Road Trip of 2008.

But honestly, I just ran out of time.

So it will only be a mini-party.

There will be a few random contests and prizes here and there, so come back regularly this week and next.

Why am I going to Vegas?
Someone I know and love, but who shall remain nameless, turned 50 this summer.  We're celebrating!

My other sister, who doesn't have a blog, is flying out and we're Road Tripping it for a weekend of riotous living (aka as much fun as three mature women can have without getting drunk).

Cast of Characters:

There will be photos. Lots and lots of photos.

And fun. (More fun than a barrel of sock monkeys.)

And the first contest is...
Road Trip Music!

We need some tunes—upbeat, high energy, fun. Leave your suggestions in the comments and at the end of our trip, I'll do a random drawing for a winner. Winner will receive a momento from our trip.

Contest Ends: Saturday, September 15, 2012. Winners announced on Monday, Sept 17th.
